Fashion & Textiles Pathway : Collages

On the second day of F&T we were asking to dress the magazine figures and realize 5 collages. I really enjoyed this workshop because with collage the creative process is infinite. We start from a one dimension picture and create a 3D work. I tried to use many different kinds of papers (Newspaper, cupboard, crepe papers, tracing paper, ...). I also loved creating background to embellish the models. This remind me of scrapbooking, something I loved to do with my mother when I was younger.
I used the idea of the first figure (3D crepe paper snake) for my final Fashion & Textiles project.

Sunday 22 September : London Open House 2013

Some views from outside
I absolutely liked the stained glass. They had a purple color from the outside and a warm and beautiful pink shade in the inside.

I appreciated the work of the moldings and columns, lattice work is stunning, everything seems to be made out of wood but it's not. It also gives a oriental side at the architecture that contrasts with the rest of the building.

The entrance is spectacular, vast with monumental stairs and a very high ceiling (with art deco roof lights). I like the "heaven side" of this room, created thanks to this majestic oriel window and the immaculate walls.

A close-up of the colorful tapestry by Sonia Delaunay. The Institute wants to show its interest for all types of art (Architecture, painting, sculpture, cinema...)

I've been amazed by the library room. I love when architects use natural materials and this room is made almost entirely of wood. It used to be the reception room (we can see it with the wooden mezzanine) and we can still feel the warm atmosphere.

After the tour I decided to go for a walk in what is one of my favorite area in London. South West London is full of stunning red brick victorian houses (I adore this kind of architecture), natural shades architecture and amazing mansions near the Thames.
Here are some pictures of buildings that caught my eyes during this walk.

I fell in love with the red brick architecture when I've been in a trip to UCLA. I find this hospital absolutely stunning.

Battersea Power Station that was opened to the public for the occasion

I discovered this amazing kitsch bridge, Albert Bridge, which differs completely from the rest of the surrounding architecture. I loved the sky blue and green columns and of course the cute light pink shade of the gateway. I love walking randomly in the street and come across that kind of interesting structures.

Natural shades and moldings

Came accros a very interested Buddha temple in Battersea Park.

Lens Based Media Final Project

For this project we have been asked to produce 6 pictures that will tell a story. We will need some characters, a problem, a struggle, a solution to the issue and then an end.

At first I've chosen my housemates to be the characters of my story. I'm still working on the idea of memory, and my new house is a really important place in my life right now.
Also we suffer from my housemate's passion for cheese quite ofter, so I found interesting and funny to imagine what would be our reaction one day if we were totally tired of smelly cheese in the kitchen.
After having decided which character will have which role, I've drawn the storyboard of how the story should be.

Here is my sketchbook, with explanation for every pictures.

1- I wanted to show the nice and friendly atmosphere of the houseshare. I chose to take a picture of the girls cooking all together and then add some hearts flying in the air. It gives the cartoon side I was looking for the story. I wanted it to be fun and out of reality, like my life in this house.

2- Anna comes back home with what's going to be the disturbing element in the house. The arrival of the cheese triggers anger in the other housemates. An issue is now in the heart of the house. Anna can't keep and cook the cheese, she needs to leave and take it with her.

3- The black cloud represents the housemates' exasperation. Anna has no other choice but to leave.

4- Anna is sitting outside of the house. She needs to find a way to come back. She needs an idea. We can imagine her staying here for a while before finding the perfect idea (illustrated by the bulb)

5- She knocks on the door and the girls come to open her. When they see her holding the clothespins, they can't help laughing. I wanted to find a resolution as simple as possible, as I'd like my troubles to be as simple as this in the future.

6- Happiness is back on the house's agenda, the girls are cooking together like they used to do, thanks to Anna's idea.

Lens Based Media Storyboard Researches in Groups

  1. We were working in groups of 4. Everyone had to draw characters from their memory (people we met, from our dreams, ...) Then we were also asked to draw places.

2. Then we mixed peoples and places from everybody's drawings and we created some stories including the characters we chose.

3. Our 3 storyboards.
First Story : One latin teacher has to repair an old church's roof, unfortunately the roof never stops collapsing and it starts raining.

Second Story : A creepy bank robber has to escape the police in Venice. He uses a gondola to leave.

Third Story : Some kind of imaginary monster leaves in a place with facing mirrors. Someone is coming and obstruct its view.

Lens Based Media Day 1

On the first day of the exploration week in Lens Based Media, we were asking to produce 5 pictures that represent the following words :

#happy
I've taken this pictures of bottles of Coca Cola in Tesco near Ravensbourne. I was looking for something warm, colorful to illustrate the word. I found interesting to take this picture, Coca Cola can be associated to happiness with its campaign slogan : Open Happiness.
Also this bottles, well arranged in the shop, with their bright red label were the warm and colorful objects I was looking for.

#sad
For this picture, I was wandering outside of Rave's building and I found this empty café's terrace, nobody was there only the chairs and tables were left. A chair was on the floor, "alone", and this scene reminds me of pictures from war, or reportages we can see on TV.
I decided to use this picture in B&W, still to reminds me of old pictures, and to add some blur on it. For me it gives the impression of a deserted terrace after a bomb attack, or of a ghost town after everyone has left. And these things represent for me "sadness"

#echo
I found interesting to take this picture of  cycles in front of Rave's building. I use an effect to transform their shape so they all look the same. Also we have the impression that the line of cycles never ends.

#jump
I didn't want to take a picture of someone in the air or something that I had thrown. Instead I chose to take a picture of some who just finished jumping and touch down the floor. She's not looking at the sky but at her feet. She still have her hands up.

#fall
I think we were expected to take a picture of something that is falling, that is not placed somewhere special, but something that is "moving".
I chose to have a different vision and to understand the word "fall" like autumn in american. I took this picture outside Rave, this tree is the typical example of this season. Also we can imagine these leaves falling, or fallen ones all around the tree.

Final Project Graphics week

For the last day of this week in Graphics we were asking to create something that will represent us in the future, in 2033 (so in 20 years). I tried to image what I would be at this period of my life, and naturally my thoughts went to Architecture. My biggest dream is to be an architect, that's why I've chosen this theme for my final project.

My sketchbook

At first I decided to cut a shape of me into paper. This represents me, being an architect. So I had the idea to fill the shape with every buildings, monuments, ... that had inspired me, in every moments of my life, in my choice of being an architect. I chose structures I've visited during my life. There are buildings that I love in my city (Marseille) like "La cité radieuse" built by Le Corbusier, or the new built museum, the MUCEM, modern and so beautiful near the sea. (by Rudy Ricciotti) There are also architectures from places I've visited, such as the Royce Hall in UCLA (LA), Malaga's city hall (by Manuel Rivera Vera), London Eye or El Duomo (Milan)... This also shows how trips abroad had made the person I am.

Here are the buildings' pictures arranged on the shape.

Then I also decided to create two arms (my arms) filled with pictures of places where I see me living or working in the future. They represent what I would like to build in these different cities. I've chosen pictures of places I've already been to (such as London my favorite city, or Los Angeles) but also lots of dream places, where there is a great potential for creation (such as NY, South America, Dubai...)

here is the final installation, me as an architect, in my office, working on my projects.
