First Project : Leisure Center

After creating random structures, we were asked to choose one of them and create a building after it.
It was hard to choose one because several of them were interesting, but for me the one that really looked like a building was this one :

I liked the large quantity of different materials in it. Plastic neon straws, plywood, blue thick sellotape and one huge nail.
The colorful aspect of the structure made me think of children, games, amusement, so I decided to do a leisure centre.
The big nail could be a big cinema.

Here are some interesting cinema around London.

Here is the leisure center's floor plan. The swimming pool will be located under the straws structure, so it will be covered to be use even in winter. The structure can be retractable for beautiful summer days.

It is the first time I used Sketchup for an architectural project. It is very convenient to illustrate my idea but hard to use. It is a really basic approach for the moment, but we can still understand how the leisure centre will work.

Researches on structures

I just started the 3DD pathway this week and the first project we have is to create random structures with materials we are given. The structures have to look like nothing in particular, they have to come straight from our imagination. I really liked this day, playing with textures, shapes and colors. I tried to use as much different materials as possible, and to have completely different pieces.

We took pictures in front of a powerful light, so we could play with shadows and illumination.
We also put little people near the structure so it directly looks like an actual building.
This day I learnt that we can find inspiration and potential in everything that surround us. All forms and structures can become a building, furniture ...
I particularly enjoyed using the colorful neon straws and rubber wires.
Then we had to draw them from different points of view.

Kew, Royal Botanic Gardens

Wonderful natural and clean architecture at Kew Gardens. I love the mix between structures and vegetation, they form a perfect harmony. I, again, noticed my favourite materials (glass and wood) and colours (white, brown, green and grey).
