Haggerston Park's area

the park is surrounded by concrete based, block council housing.
This is my main inspiration for my origami building.
I wanted to bring a bit of the area into my centre.
As concrete is a bit sad and grim I decided to add the colorful origami structure.

This is a drawing I've done with a pen and then colour it on Photoshop.
It is the area architecture, with lots of people in the street.
There is lots of concrete structure and simple brick houses.
The second picture is create with the negative mode. I love the new colours.

Origami building first model (on Sketchup)

Origami building Model Idea 2

This is simple colorful origamis made from paper put together on a steel structure.
The structure will then be wrapping the building.
So the structure won't be the actual building, it is just something added to give colours and joy.
The brown plastic part is here to create the stage room.
The stage will be surrounded by bay window.
The origami pieces will be solar panels and rain water collectors.

La Cité Radieuse, Le Corbusier, in Marseille

This is the first and most famous of Le Corbusier's "Cité Radieuse" (radiant city) located in Marseille (also know as "La Maison du Fada".
It was built between 1947-1952. One of Le Corbusier's most famous works, it proved enormously influential and is often cited as the initial inspiration of the Brutalist architectural style and philosophy.

The building is constructed in béton brut (rough concrete), as the hoped for steel frame proved too expensive in light of post war shortages.
The unité in Marseille is pending designation as a World Heritagle site by UNESCO. It is designated a historic monument by the french Ministry of Culture. It was damaged by fire on February 9, 2012.
The Marseille building, developed with Le Corbusier's designers Shadrach Woods, Georges Candilis, comprises 337 apartments arranged over 12 stories, all suspended on large piloti.
The building also incorporates shops with architectural bookshop, medical and educational facilities, a hotel which is open to the public, and a gastronomes restaurant, "Le Ventre de l'Architecte".

Inside, the corridors run through the centre of the long axis of every third floor of the building, with each apartment lying on two levels, and stretching from one side of the building to the other, with a balcony. Unlike many of the interior system, built blocks it inspired, which lack the original's generous proportions, communal facilities and parkland setting, the Unité is popular with its residents and now mainly occupied by upper middle class professionals.

The flat roof is designed as a communal terrace with sculptural ventilation stacks, a running track, and a shallow pool for children. There is also a Children's Art school in the atelier. The roof, where a number of the theatrical performances have taken place, underwent renovation in 2010 and since 2013 it hosts an exhibition centre. It has unobstructed views of the Mediterranean and Marseille and can be access by public.
On the roof it is designed to look like a boat.
I live very close to the building, I've always seen it from outside and I didn't really like how it looked. Like other Brutalism buildings. I found it very impressive.

Living room and kitchen palette
Children nursery palette
Parental bedroom palette
Inspirations : I really like the colours used everywhere win the building. There were lots of blue for the sea and green for the nature. The app arts had specific colours. While I was visiting there were having some fixing done. The rooms were repainted, with the original colours. The testing palettes were on the wall.
I found the colours perfect together, they inspired me for my project's design.

I found the building very interesting and Le Corbusier's ideas are the same as mine. I loved the rooftop, the space dedicated to the art and to the children is amazing.
The idea of the 2 levels apartments is really clever. It allows more natural lights (balcony) and give beautiful view (Le Corbusier loved the nature and wanted his buildings to be in harmony with it)
The kitchen and bathroom facilities are modern ! A community was created inside the building.
You could order food from the shop from a phone located inside the kitchen.

Children's questionnaires (filled)

Because I change my project I had to think about a new questionnaire and new audience. It will mainly be children aged between 3 to 10 and maybe parents. Children will have to answer questions about their tastes in colours, games, materials, etc. And parents will be asked about prices, centre's amenities, social help, etc.
I wanted the questionnaire to be for people living in Hackney only, but when I went to the area it
was really hard to find people that were actually living there. It is now a very trendy area, and lots of families and tourists come here to enjoy what the area has to offer. I then changed my questionnaire to accept people that work in Hackney (if parents work in the borough, it will be great to have a place close to their work, it will be easier for them to pick the children up.) I also put people that have relatives living in the borough.
I came back with my new questionnaire but lots of people didn't have time or didn't want the children's to answer questions. Lots of parents were showing protective. I couldn't spend hours looking for people so at the end I ended up with few questionnaires filled. It didn't really help me, the answers were very eclectic.
I choose to consider the area's architecture to find my final design. East London was bombed during World War II And we can nowadays find lots of concrete buildings. I thought about bringing the area's history into my centre.
As concrete is not really joyful, and because I was inspired by festival structures / Columbia Road Market, I thought about a colourful structure that will cheer the building up.

Origami Building Model : First idea

PYRAMID CHAOTIC STRUCTURE
This is a random strutter I've done with the inspiration of my previous drawing. Here I try some colours, shape and design idea.
> Pyramid > Origami
MATERIALS TESTING FOR DESIGN IDEA

> Mix of colours and materials. Dominance of blue = Clear, glass, light, cold colour.
Zoom on materials

Materials I used : - Blue foam for the structure and pedestal
- wire
- blue rubber wire
- glittering glossy paper
- aluminium thin paper
- green hard paper

View from inside
View from bottom

It is a majestic tower. There is no real idea of space and structure but this can be considered as a decoration for the origami building.

Creating a complex and chaotic actual building will be too complicated and too expensive. With this simple model I realized that the original and artistic part of the building can only be an additional structure. So the building can be hidden by it. So it can be simple and cheap.
