Children's brain development
BRAIN DEVELOPMENT
The origamis remind me of children's brain that "grows" everyday. Young people learn new things everyday and new connexions are created all the time into their brain.
I found the origami a beautiful image to illustrate brain's activity.
In this centre I hope teachers and volunteers will be able to encourage children to give their best and to prevent delinquency.
It is such a "critical period". Selection of active neural circuit takes place throughout life, but is far more common in early childhood. > Critical period for language learning begins at 5 and ends around puberty.
Our brain are continually re-shaping themselves to meet the demand of everyday life.
I need now to do more and more research to try to find a design with origami.
My previous research show me how I was attracted by colours and how they can cheer up a place. Future design > origami + bright colours

Final Idea
After all the research I've done on Hackney area I found my final area. I will create a children's centre in the heart of Haggerston Park. It will be children age from 3 to 10 and they will come to play after school or during week end / holidays.
I want it to be a social project, to help those families who need it.
The centre will provide children with paintings, drawing, music, etc. lessons.
There will also be psychologists and volunteers that will be there to listen and help parents and children.
I've first done some research on festival structure for my first idea, and I liked a lot a structure made for Coachella Festival in California > Ascension by Crimson Collective.
It is a solar powered origami crane structure.
I love the message behind origami and I've done plenty of research on my sketchbook. I also found them beautiful and original.
I think origami will be my main inspiration for my building.

Facts about the borough of Hackney
I presented my idea to my peers during
groups talks and they found it interesting but maybe I should change it to create something that does not
already exist.
It is true because it is East London, and it is home to every new concerts venues, cafe and markets (there is lots near Haggerston Park : Brick Lane market, Spitalfields market, Broadway market...)
I remembered meeting my cousine and her housemate, he is working for Hackney Council, and he takes care of juvenile offenders. Lots of children, aged 10-15 are commiting crimes such as stabbing or dealing drugs, and I thought they were really young and we need to worry about that. Being from a high criminality city as well, in France, I am really concerned about people quality of life and young people education.
I have done some research online on Hackney Council website and I found lots of facts and figures about Child poverty in the borough. Haggerston has the highest percentage as well as teenage pregnancy and educational failure.

Haggerston has the highest rate for children living in poverty in the all borough. It is more than 50% of the children.
I actually completely changed my idea, I am making a Children's centre inside Haggerston Park. It will be link to Hackney City Farm and it will welcome children from the borough.

Idea presentation in front of peers and tutor
Moving to a big city like London enables me to discover different areas and atmospheres. I
found in East London, Hackney / Tower Hamlets boroughs, some really nice
neighbourhoods, with a new artistic and trendy side. Despite some beautiful and rich areas,
there are lots of grim and sad places and Hackney has one of the highest crime rate in
London. I think this area shows lots of contrasts. There are beautiful and colorful areas such as Columbia Road Market or Brick Lane and then grey and concrete based building. Hackney has one of the highest percentage of council housings in London.
I would like my project to be a building or a structure that will cheer inhabitants' everyday life.
I will take the oppotunity given by the FMP to research and work in this field with lots of
interests. Haggerston Park is central and well connected to London. It has a great potential,
with lots of activities (such as Hackney Farm or BMX tracks) and I think it will be interested to redevelop it into one area for everyone, such as a pop up market with a cafe and concerts.
I went to the exhibition 'Sensing Spaces' where I discovered the work of architect Diébédo
Francis Kéréand how he sees interaction between architecture and people.
I thought it may be a good idea to create a structure in interaction with Hackney inhabitants.
lots of people there maybe never had the opportunity to go to a concert so I would like the
place to be a sociable structure, with low prices and volunteers working there to allow
everyone to enjoy it.
I would like to use as many ways as possible to illustrate my ideas, and try new softwares
(3D modeling) or mediums I have never used before. I will draw, visit places of interests and
question people living in the area, as they will be my main source of inspiration. I will
challenge myself by trying new methods of models making as well as lots of floor plans. I will
discuss as much as possible with my peers, thought my student blog or class debates.
